His words and motions seemed to shoot straight to Selina’s core, his tone sending her bones into an aching frenzy. There was something so different about him, something so sinister, aside from the obvious. There was a hidden storm, a hurricane of sorts, that accumulated just beneath the surface of all that he was. It was something a lot more dangerous and far more frightening than he showed… and it excited her.
Wrapping her slender fingers around the file, Selina began to move back before Bane took hold of her, bringing her towards him before he spoke; his words aiming to strike some sort of fear or knowledge within her. Though it only sparked an odd sort of anger, born out of a feeling of disrespect.
Selina’s eyes narrowed ever so slightly, and only a slight moment, as her gaze burned into Bane’s. “Yes— and I trust you understand that I am no fool, Bane. I am not known for my failures, now am I? I would not have come to you and risk myself in such a way if I was not confident in my performance and what it is I can deliver.” She retorted as she tardily jerked herself from his grasp.
“Know now, Bane, that I am not one to get myself in a mess that was not acquired of me to get into in the first place. I did not have to come here, nor did I have to present myself to you. I could have been more than okay watching Gotham burn from a television screen in France. Ah, mais hélas, here I am. Ready, willing and more than able. I would suggest showing a bit more… gratitude, yes? I only want to watch this place go down in flames, watch the masses squirm like maggots as they climb over each other, fighting for a way out— and I would much rather do that standing by your side as opposed to being on the opposite side; if you’ll allow it.” She finished before taking in a deep breath through her nostrils.
“Whilst I have my own reasons for wanting to see this place destroyed, in the end, we both want the same things; do we not? So how about you have a little more faith in me, kitten? I’m a ‘satisfaction guaranteed’ kind of girl, I can assure you of that.”
Bane’s fingers uncurled from Selina’s arm as she jerked herself away from him. His initial reflex was to snatch her right back, and squash out the insolent fire within her before it spread. However, Bane respected her personal space—for the time being.
“Your temper tantrum proves nothing to me but the atmosphere of your own resolve.” Sensing her agitation, he lifted his hand to the side of his face—his eyes shut in annoyance—silencing her before she began to argue with him. “No more arguing. I trust your capabilities and therefor I have no further reason to voice my sensible doubts.”
Bane’s eyes opened, once again connecting with hers, and flickered down to the file that she held in her hand. The main water valves in the sewer began to switch, as was the routine, and made a loud buzzing noise—forcing Bane to roll his eyes. Eventually the valves were realigned, and the noises stopped—making the silence in the air so thick that Selina could cut it with her claw. Instead, Bane’s rebreather hissed and wheezed, filling the silence with renewed attentions.
“Open it, Ms. Kyle.”
Selina ignored his comment and instead inhaled deeply as she opened the file he had handed her. She read over each line, twice, giving herself full knowledge of the required task at hand. It would be exceedingly simple, for seduction was a useful trait that Selina had acquired over time, a trait that would come in handy now. Nodding slowly, Selina began to close the file before she tardily looked up at Bane, waiting for a mere moment before she spoke.
“I can do it. Just tell me when you would like it done.” She stated before handing the file back to him, having already committed it to her memory. “The file is quite vague on what exactly I am supposed to be getting out of Mr. Steven Harrow, but I am assuming it is something obvious, yes? Something I will know to be of importance once I hear it?” Selina questioned before shrugging slightly.
“Then again, it is of no matter. A man with his track record for dating bad women, should be simple to manipulate. I’ll have him telling me his darkest seconds before we even get to the dessert.” She added, giving a wicked smirk towards the end, that was when she realized something. Throughout this entire conversation, she had kept her mask on— which led her to wonder if Bane had ever even seen what she looked like in the flesh. “I would be correct in assuming that you already know what it is I look like beneath my mask, yes? I just want to be sure there are no secrets here— full trust, if possible. If you do not know what I look like, you need only ask, and I will take it off.” She finished before taking a step back from him, her gaze never leaving his face as she spoke.
Bane watched her eyes flicker over the file. Speed reader. For some reason, that was not surprising. At all. It is a good trait to have when handed an assignment, and Selina Kyle had an abundance of good traits. His eyes roamed slowly over her body while he thought this, not caring if she noticed or not. He was a man, after all. One that did not give two bat shits about how anyone felt or thought—for the most part.
"Unless you are criminally inept, you will know when you hear it." Bane waited a moment, always amused at her body language when he threw a passive aggressive insult her way. "I will give you free reign of this assignment. Do it when you like and how you like, as long as it is finished within the next two months." He took her slight nod as affirmation, and continued to answer her next question.
"I know exactly what you look like, Ms. Kyle. The choice to wear your mask is up to you. However, I will not provide you with the same courtesy if you choose to remove it."
Hark, a miracle! Bane made a joke, of sorts.
